Tinjauan Efek Penyalahgunaan Dextromethorphan: Literature Review

Abstract

Drug abuse is an increased desire to obtain and use high amounts of one or more substances to the exclusion of all other aspects. Drug abuse can take a toll on the body and mind. One of the effects is physical disturbance and drug dependence. Lately, problems often occur in the misuse of cough medicines containing the active ingredient dextromethorphan. This happens because of the effects of dextromethorphan which when used in large doses can cause euphoria and a sense of calm (same as psychotropics). Therefore, the purpose of this review is to determine the effects of dextromethorphan drug abuse with the method used in making this review article, namely a systematic review where the data obtained are a collection of several related articles sourced from Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, and the Elsevier OA License with a 10 year issue limit. The results of the review obtained, the effect of dextromethorphan is very dose dependent, dextromethorphan can act as a cough suppressant at therapeutic doses but at higher doses it can cause poisoning, high euphoria, hallucinations, and dream-like visions. Treatment for dextromethorphan abuse consists of different components, such as initial hospitalization, medically assisted care (medicine for a variety of symptoms), substance use disorder therapy (the basis of treatment for all types of substance abuse problems), and participation in some form of social support. As well as some individuals will require additional treatment.

ABSTRAK

Penyalahgunaan obat merupakan suatu keinginan yang meningkat untuk memperoleh serta memakai satu atau lebih zat dalam jumlah yang tinggi dengan mengesampingkan segala aspek yang lain. Penyalahgunaan obat dapat berpengaruh bagi tubuh dan pikiran. Salah satu dampaknya adalah terganggunya fisik dan ketergantungan obat. Belakangan ini kerap terjadi permasalahan dalam penyalahgunaan obat batuk yang mengandung bahan aktif dextromethorphan. Hal ini terjadi karena efek dari dextromethorphan yang apabila digunakan dalam dosis besar dapat menyebabkan euforia dan rasa tenang (sama seperti psikotropika). Oleh sebab itu, tujuan dari tinjauan ini adalah untuk mengetahui efek dari penyalahgunaan obat dextromethorphan dengan metode yang digunakan dalam pembuatan artikel review ini yaitu dengan systematic review di mana hasil data yang diperoleh merupakan kumpulan dari beberapa artikel terkait yang bersumber dari dari Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, dan Elsevier OA License dengan batasan terbit 10 tahun. Hasil dari tinjauan yang didapat, efek dextromethorphan sangat bergantung pada dosis, dextromethorphan dapat bertindak sebagai penekan batuk pada dosis terapeutik tetapi pada dosis yang lebih tinggi dapat mengakibatkan keracunan, euforia tinggi, halusinasi, dan penglihatan seperti mimpi. Perawatan untuk penyalahgunaan dextromethorphan terdiri dari komponen yang berbeda, seperti rawat inap awal, perawatan yang dibantu secara medis (obat untuk berbagai gejala), terapi gangguan penggunaan zat (dasar pengobatan untuk semua jenis masalah penyalahgunaan zat), dan partisipasi dalam beberapa bentuk dukungan sosial. Serta beberapa individu akan memerlukan perawatan tambahan.
